VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Twelve chemicals found in daily-use products hurt you or the environment, according to the David Suzuki Foundation. The number one find: perfume.
Lisa Gue with the foundation points out an online study involving more than 10,000 Canadians shows people are using products that are either cancer-causing or have environmental implications.
“Our concern stems from the fact each of us uses multiple products every day throughout a lifetime and that these exposures add up,” she says.
The study urges companies to list harmful ingredients found in fragrances.
Here is a list of the David Suzuki Foundation Dirty Dozen:
1. BHA and BHT
2. Coal tar dyes
3. DEA
4. Dibutyl phthalate
5. Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives
6. Parabens
7. Parfum (a.k.a. fragrance)
8. PEG compounds
9. Petrolatum
10. Siloxanes
11. Sodium laureth sulfate
12. Triclosan
