VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – Two young men have admitted they planned the rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl near Victoria in March.
The accused, aged 16 and 18, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the killing of Kimberly Proctor, whose badly burned body was found along a popular hiking trial in Langford. A court was told the two lured Proctor to one of their homes, sexually assaulted her, killed her and then moved the body to the Galloping Goose trail, where they set it on fire.
RCMP Corporal Darren Lagan was in the courtroom and says Proctor’s family was there to hear those details, too. “We’ve also spent a great deal of time and came to know Kimberly’s mother and father, and her extended family. It’s a very, very difficult day for them. Unimaginable what they are going through.”
No reason was offered for the murder, although court heard that one of the accused had dreamed of killing someone since he was a boy. Both teens can’t be named because they were under 18 when the murder occurred.
The Crown is seeking adult sentences for both boys when they’re back in court in March.
