RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – The City of Richmond says more than 70,000 people walked or cycled across the Canada Line pedestrian bridge to Vancouver in the first nine months of this year.
Now getting to the bridge got a little safer for pedestrians and cyclists, thanks to a new bike lane. The new link is on Van Horne Way near Bridgeport Canada Line Station. It’s not a very large stretch, but it is the missing piece connecting the bridge with Richmond’s 50-kilometer network of cycling and walking trails.
TransLink’s Cindy Chan Piper says it’s a great addition. “I used that system today to get here. I rode my bike to the Canada Line Station, got on the Canada Line, got off at the Bridgeport Station over there, and rode over here. It works!”
One cyclist told News1130 he is happy that connection has finally been made. “The roadway has quite a bit of heavy traffic, so this is going to make it a lot easier for us. And definitely safer. That is what it’s always about, being safer.”
