FT. LAUDERDALE, FL. (NEWS1130) – Canadian comedian and actor Leslie Nielsen has died at the age of 84.
His family says the actor, best known for his role in the “Naked Gun” film series, died of complications of pneumonia in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida hospital around Sunday.
His nephew Doug Nielsen, who lives in Richmond, says his uncle had been hospitalized for over a week and died in his sleep. Friends and wife, Barbaree, were by the Regina-born actor’s side.
News1130’s Bruce Claggett had the privilege of working with Nielsen on the set of Mr. Magoo, which was shot in Vancouver in the 1990s. “The amazing thing about Leslie Nielson was he never took himself seriously, especially in his later years.”
Nielsen also shot Scary Movie 4 and Men with Brooms in Vancouver. He appeared in more than 100 films and had stars on both Hollywood’s and Canada’s Walk of Fame.
