VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Terasen Gas has been approved to provide up to 24,000 customers in BC with bio-gas next year.
David Bennett with the energy provider says they are buying from a methane producing farm in Abbotsford, and are capturing gas from a landfill in Salmon Arm. “The second part is creating a rate [so we can] sell that to our customers. So customers who would like to have a renewable form of natural gas can opt to do that.”
Bennett adds, “It is more expensive than regular or natural gas, but it’s a premium product. There are a significant number of people who would like to do something for the environment and reduce their greenhouse gas footprint.”
It would cost the average homeowner about an extra four dollars more every month.
