VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There is a push to make BC tobacco and smoke-free. The provincial government is considering a $25 million plan to help people kick the habit.
Under the plan, the government would provide taxpayer funded subsidies for cessation products like a nicotine patch or gum.
The Clean Air Coalition of BC also wants to see cigarette sales banned in drugstores and pharmacies. It also wants the number of outlets that are allowed to sell tobacco reduced.
Numbers in the Vancouver Sun suggests more than half a million people in BC smoke. A final decision on the plan isn’t expected until later this year.
