BC Place could get a new name in a few months

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC Place Stadium will be getting a new name, but that won’t happen for at least a few months.

General Manager Howard Crosley says they’re closing in on a corporate naming deal that should bring in about two million dollars a year.

He wouldn’t reveal which company or companies were bidding on naming rights.

Crosley also couldn’t be pinned down on the exact date the stadium will re-open under its new, retractable roof. “Our general contractor won’t make a commitment at this point. They told us that this is as good as they can do at this point.”

He says it should be ready by early fall so that the BC Lions and Whitecaps can start calling it their home as soon as possible.

Crosley was speaking at a news conference where Budweiser was announced as the official beer of the two teams. No word yet on whether that announcement will have an impact on beer prices.
