VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – While the City of Calgary looks over a proposal to allow taxis to stop at fire hydrants, the Vancouver Fire Department doesn’t think that idea would work here.
Apparently it has to do with the way the hydrants are laid out.
Vancouver Firefighter Charles Maulder says it would be rare to see a hydrant mid-block, which is common in some areas of Calgary. He says most of the hydrants in Vancouver are placed on the corner of streets.
“A cab could easily get in there and out if there wasn’t an emergency, they could easily out. But for us, being on a corner it could have some problems with the traffic.”
He adds unlike Calgary there has never been a proposal put forward for the department to look at in Vancouver.
