VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – One of Vancouver’s most famous homes has just hit the market again. The Casa Mia mansion can be yours for the low price of $10.5 million. That’s a steal, because BC Assessment puts the value of the home Southwest Marine Drive at close to $12 million. The home has been on and off the market for the last year.
The mansion was built in the 1930s for George Reifel, the man who opened the Commodore Ballroom. In the 1940s, Louis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie played shows for him at his home. Many years later, business tycoon Nelson Scalbania lived there.
Civic historian John Atkin says Reifel spared no expense on his home. “Apart from the extensive grounds and Spanish architecture, one of the noted features was that a Disney cartoonist came up and the painted murals in the kids’ bedroom,” explains Atkin.
With a just over a million bucks down and a $56,000 monthly mortgage payment, you can own it outright in 25 years.
