VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A Metro Vancouver woman has already had seven surgeries — and still needs two more — after her nose was bitten off more than a year ago. Her boyfriend is the culprit.
The woman, who can’t be named because of a publication ban, testified she and Ronaldo Gonzalez-Hernandez were drinking at his Burnaby home back in November 2009 when she asked him to speak to a male friend on the phone.
She says he seemed to get very angry at her and she left to go have a shower. When she came back, the two began kissing, but she says he became very aggressive and she wanted him to stop his advances.
A short time later, he covered her nose with his mouth and completely bit her nose off.
When paramedics and police arrived, they found blood all over the room, on Gonzalez-Hernandez’ face, and on the woman’s clothing. She also had extensive bruising to her upper body and eyes, and another cut on her cheek.
A plastic surgeon at the trial by judge alone says doctors tried to re-attach her nose, but it mummified after one week. The woman has since had repair work done with skin grafts from her forehead.
Gonzalez-Hernandez has been found guilty of aggravated sexual assault. He has a sentencing date with BC Supreme Court Justice Mary Humphries next week.
