VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – The Ministry of Transportation has confirmed to News1130 that accidents dropped roughly 60 per cent along the Sea to Sky Highway last year.
According to the ministry, last year there were 73 crashes along the Highway, in years prior there was an annual average of 215 crashes.
Much of the reduction can likely be attributed to the $600-million Sea-To-Sky Highway Improvement Project, which aimed to improve safety along the highway between West Vancouver and Whistler’s Function Junction ahead of last year’s Olympics.
The project straightened out sections of the highway, added passing lanes and reflective markings, widened shoulders, and improved barriers and medians.
