VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – Moving vans are already at the arena in Chilliwack. Workers have even dismantled the Prospera Centre center-ice scoreboard. The Chilliwack Bruins are finished in the Fraser Valley after five seasons in the WHL.
The Western Hockey League announced today that the Chilliwack Bruins’s sale to RG Properties has been completed and the Bruins will play in Victoria next season at Victoria’s Save-On Foods Centre. Victoria hasn’t had a WHL team since the Cougars moved to Prince George in 1994.
The move is expected to start a chain-reaction of franchise moves in hockey. There are unconfirmed reports that the Western Hockey League could move an existing franchise into Chilliwack or that the BC Hockey League could return to the city. One rumour has the owners of the BCHL’s Quesnel Millionaires considering relocating to Chilliwack.
