VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The annual Vancouver Police auction happens this weekend and along with the power tools, jewelry, and electronics, more than 500 bikes will be up for sale.
Ian Wightman with the Vancouver Police property office isn’t surprised there are over 600 lots of stuff. “It’s very typical of a Vancouver police auction. We’re the largest auction that I’m aware of in Canada, certainly in Western Canada.”
Wightman says if you go to the auction and spot your stolen bike, you can take it home. “They don’t necessarily have to prove that it’s their bike when they arrive on Saturday, but if they say ‘This is [mine] and I’ve got all the receipts at home,’ then we’ll pull the bike from the auction.”
Unfortunately, if you find one thing you want in a lot, you have to buy the whole lot. On the bright side, a big bag of watches could be Christmas gifts for years to come.
Some other items up for auction: bags of shoes, a kitchen sink, and even some seized maple syrup.
