Hassli scores the goal of the year in MLS

By

SEATTLE, WA (NEWS1130) – Eric Hassli’s half volley in the 85th minute gave Whitecaps FC a 2-2 draw in Seattle. Sounders FC had just bagged a pair of goals, three minutes apart to take the lead in the contest.

The French sniper’s right-footed strike on the right side of the 18 yard box eluded Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Keller at the far post. Hassli opened the scoring in the 29th minute on a penalty kick. The former Swiss league player now has a half dozen goals in Major League Soccer.

Now 15 games into the season, Vancouver has not won since the opener versus Toronto FC. Playing on the road, the Caps now have two draws and a loss under new Head Coach Tom Soehn.

It was the first Cascadia Cup match between the two sides. The Portland Timbers are also involved in the Pacific Northwest challenge.
