VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Carrot could be back at the Coliseum.
The Vancouver Giants have called a news conference for Thursday when they are expected to announce that former Vancouver Canucks’ goaltender Glen Hanlon is taking a job as one one of the Giants‘ assistant coaches for the coming Western Hockey League season.
Hanlon, nicknamed “The Carrot” during his playing days, was drafted by the Canucks in 1977 out of Brandon and would play in Vancouver five seasons in a career that included stops with the Rangers, Blues, Stars and Red Wings.
Hanlon retired as a player after the 1990-91 season. He was a goalie coach and assistant coach with the Canucks and held head coaching positions with the NHL’s Washington Capitals and Slovakia’s national team.
The Giants have been looking for a veteran assistant who can help guide the club when head coach Don Hay leaves the team for as much as a month to coach Canada at the world junior championships in Edmonton and Calgary at Christmastime.
