Second half comeback falls short for Lions in Montreal

MONTREAL, QC (NEWS1130) – BC could not recover from a 27-10 half time deficit, as Montreal held on to edge the Lions in the CFL opener 30-26. Als quarterback Anthony Calvillo threw three touchdowns in the first half.

Montreal led 27-10 at half time. The veteran Montreal pivot, coming off of off-season thyroid surgery was 22 for 30 for 312 yards passing. Travis Lulay put up some decent numbers for the Lions, going 26 for 44  for 366 yards in the air.

Paul McCallum booted four field goals for BC, while former protege Sean Whyte kicked three in his Montreal debut.

The Lions Tim Brown had a 97-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

The Allouettes did not sell out the opener, ending a consecutive streak of 105 games that dated back to June 25, 2002.

The Lions home opener at Empire Field is Friday July 8 versus Calgary.
