ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – An Abbotsford mom suffered minor burns to her face as she rushed her three daughters out of their burning home Thursday afternoon. Smoke billowing out of the home on Pineview Ave. could be seen from blocks away.
The woman was able to get her six-month-old baby and five-year-old out of the house safely but the flames scorched her face when she ran back inside to get her two-year-old.
Deputy Chief Mike Helmer says the owners of the home have insurance, but the occupants were not insured, and have lost almost everything.
“Social services from Abbotsford is on the scene to help them and provide them with shelter for the first few days. I’m sure the community can join together to help this family out,” Helmer hopes.
Helmer says the house will probably have to be torn down. “It will probably have to be destroyed. The contents are gone. There will be very little remaining for this family.”
The fire was caused by a lit cigarette.
