For the second time in just one week, another roadside memorial has been defaced on the Lougheed Highway, and the family just wants their things back.
Early Saturday morning, 25 – year old Matthew Beaver was walking along Lougheed highway near Phillips Avenue in Burnaby, when he was hit and killed by a pick- up truck.
Family and friends set up a memorial to him, by the side of the road. Sometime in the last day, they noticed nearly everything was gone.
Now, family friend Paul Embury says all they want are those things back.
“Flowers, vases and cards have been stolen from the makeshift memorial that was set up at the site where he lost his life.”
He says the cards and memorabilia mean a lot to the family. “No questions asked, just return anything and everything that’s still salvageable.”
One week ago, a memorial to two women killed near Pitt River road in Coquitlam last February was also vandalized, with thieves taking solar lights, plants and other items.
