Sally Ann in need of turkeys, pies, coffee for Thanksgiving

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The quality of food that has been donated to the Salvation Army has improved, but meat and coffee are still hot ticket items. News1130 is getting a run-down of what those in need are hoping for ahead of Thanksgiving.

The ‘Restocking the Shelves 2011’ campaign helped to fill many offices across the country. Kecia Fossen with the Harbour Light Mission says lately they have seen an abundance of produce.

“It is nice to see,” she explains. “We work with a dietician twice a week and she makes sure that we have a serving of vegetables and that there is always a bowl of fruit in our shelters.”

Fossen says people are realizing the need is there and it is better to donate food than to toss it.

What’s needed this Thanksgiving? Turkeys and pie!

“Usually we end up with quite a lot of pies around Christmas because after Thanksgiving there is an influx of pumpkin pies,” she adds.  “But pre-Thanksgiving, we end up having to buy the pies… so any donations of pumpkin pies are always welcome.”
