VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A follow-up to a story News1130 first brought you last weekend. The food contractor at BC Place is confident things will run smoothly at tonight’s BC Lions game.
You may remember last weekend that fans went to the grand re-opening and were met with long line-ups, overflowing toilets, and concessions that ran out of food and beer.
John Hickman with Centerplate says not to worry, that will never happen again. “A new facility always has a learning curve with it, and now that we’ve had these extra days and this extra time to train we’re really confident that we’re going to be able to solve a lot of the problems.”
PavCo, the company in charge of bringing in the $563 million roof, confirmed roughly 160 workers didn’t show up on opening day. And the GM of BC Place admitted to News1130 that managers didn’t have enough time to train the employees who did go to work.
Hickman says all staffing issues have since been resolved. “We’ve had plenty of time to train the staff back up and we’ve also hired some folks. The combination of time, access and some more personnel, we’re really confident that we’ll meet the fan standards and meet our standards as well.”
He doesn’t know how many new staff members have been hired but is adamant things will run smoothly tonight.
