SURREY (NEWS1130) – Romantic, or stupid? Surrey RCMP were called today after a young man’s idea for a marriage proposal staged to look like a kidnapping went terribly wrong.
Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Bruce Anderson says a woman walking near 156 St. and Highway 10 saw a bunch of young men pull a young woman out of a van and into another car around 3:30 this afternoon.
“It appears that poor acting was involved, that they put it to a little more extreme intensity than required, and that’s what gave the passer-by the impression that it was a possible abduction,” he tells News1130.
It wasn’t until several cop cars swooped down on the fake kidnappers 15 minutes later that they learned what was really going on.
Anderson says the group was very apologetic, and the girlfriend eventually did say yes.
