Science World gets green renovations

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Renovations at Science World are nearly finished and on Friday the chair of its board offered a glimpse at what it has in store for visitors.  The newly refurbished building will have a few more green features.

Science World’s $35 million facelift includes structural and seismic upgrades, but it also got an environmental makeover.

Board Chair Andrew Harries says the renewal includes a new green roof and solar panels that heat the building’s water supply.  “To ensure Science World is responsibly conserving and even generating energy, as well as using the building as a platform to present the conservation message to our visitors.”

He adds families can look forward to visiting a new rooftop deck with beautiful views of False Creek and 1,000 square metres of gallery space.

“We’re extending the project to include an outdoor science park, which you have may have noticed is really just a mud park at the moment.  Based on the science of sustainability and decision that individuals make in their daily lives to protect the environment.”

The new park is expected to be finished by next spring.  And a reminder for families, admission is free on December 3rd.
