Magic carpet officially opens on Mt Seymour

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Call it an oasis from the elements.  A new, space-aged lift at Mount Seymour makes those really snowy, windy or rainy days a lot more tolerable for new skiers and snowboarders.

It’s called the covered Magic Carpet – you simply ski or snowboard onto the rubber mat and it gently takes you up the 134 metre slope at the Goldie Meadows learning area.

Eddie Wood is General Manager at Mt Seymour and says not only is easy to get on and get off.

“It’s also protected from the weather elements, so it allows us to open the carpet on time after a heavy snowfall the night before and it’s just a pleasurable experience to ride up if it’s snowing or otherwise,” he explains.

The snow simply slides off the plexi-glass cover.

Andrea is a rookie snowboarder and remembers learning how to ski as child on Mt Seymour’s very same bunny hills, “I had a nightmare of a time going on the rope tow.”

She says using the Magic Carpet made her more confident.  The conveyor was built in Denver, Colorado, and can handle around 1,500 people an hour.

Mt Seymour says it’s the first covered Magic Carpet in Western Canada.
