Shooting on Davie Street

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man was shot inside the Tim Hortons at the corner of Davie St. and Howe St. in downtown Vancouver around 7:30 last night.

Vancouver Police are still looking for the shooter. Constable Lindsey Houghton says the 30-year-old was shot multiple times and is now recovering in hospital.

“The victim at one point, left the Tim Hortons during this running gun battle, and ran eastbound on Davie Street; it was a very short time after that that our officers arrived and caught up with him,” says Houghton.

He tells us the shooter took off in a light brown or gold coloured SUV. “The suspect is described as an adult male, at least six feet tall, wearing dark clothing. He had a baseball hat on and was wearing a scarf to conceal his face.”

Houghton adds the victim is known to police and is expected to make a full recovery. “The victim is currently sedated in hospital, so investigators haven’t been able to speak with him yet.”

There are a lot of witnesses to interview. About a dozen of them were pulled out of the Tim Horton’s and loaded on a city bus to be taken to the detachment for questioning.

Police are asking anyone else with information to call investigators.

“Everyone’s information is valuable no matter how insignificant. People may have seen the suspect, they may have seen the victim, they may have seen suspicious vehicles quickly leaving the area. That’s all information that would be of key value,” explains Houghton.

He adds it’s lucky no one else was hurt. “Anytime you have a shooting in a busy downtown area at 7:30 at night, this is concerning for us. This is a complete disregard for public safety, and it’s unacceptable.”
