VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Don’t expect to hop on the SkyTrain at 3 a.m. when you leave your New Year’s bash next weekend. TransLink is running extended services, but not all night.
The transit authority’s Drew Snider says there isn’t any point to extend service round the clock, because as it stands, service runs almost into the next morning. “We’ve got the additional hour on SkyTrain, an additional hour on SeaBus, additional capacity on the buses. In the past that has proven to be exactly what we need to get people home.”
Snider promises no one will be left behind. “Anybody who is in the station at closing time gets on a train, basically we’ve got additional service coming in on New Year’s Eve to make sure people get home.”
Busier routes like the 99 B-Line will have even more buses running that night.
And as usual, transit is free as of 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
