Former student teacher gets 3 weeks for sex chat with teen

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A former student teacher will have to spend his weekends in jail after having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

He met the girl while he was doing a practicum at Rick Hansen Secondary in Abbotsford. Corey Jordan Hamade was 28 when he met the girl last year. He chatted with her online using a webcam. He was charged because he was in a position of authority and pleaded guilty to invitation to sexual touching.

Mykle Ludvigsen with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch says this charge will go on Hamade’s file if he ever applies as a teacher.

“This individual does not hold a certificate with us and so therefore we do not have jurisdiction on this person,” he explains. “We will make sure that we make note of the file so if the person ever does apply to become a teacher we have that information available to us and then we can make determinations at that point, but there isn’t anything we can do and the person doesn’t actually hold a certificate.”

Hamade was sentenced to a total of 21 days behind bars, but gets to serve them on weekends.
