VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Sharing isn’t always easy, especially when it comes to a car. The popular Car2Go program has experienced a rash of break-ins, leading to headaches for members.
Over 20 of the little white and blue Smart Cars have been broken into this month, with thieves making off with the shared fuel cards.
As a result, hundreds of the cards have now been cancelled, leaving it in the hands, and wallets of members to fill-up. But that rubs many members, like Scott, the wrong way.
“I use the service when I need a car quickly and I might not always be thinking about having an extra reasonably large some of money to fill up a tank,” says Scott. “It’s nice to have the convenience and not to worry about all the things you worry about when you have a regular car ownership. Taking away the gas cards makes it much more difficult and the service not quite as easy.”
The company says it doesn’t expect members to fill-up the cars. If there isn’t enough gas in vehicle, Car2Go does have a servicing system that takes care of filling up the vehicles. But if you do fill-up a vehicle with your own credit card, then the company is working on a way to compensate you.
Car2Go has been around for almost a year and at first, there were 2,000 people signed up. Now the company has over 10,000 drivers.
