Actress describes grief on Bereavement Day

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A Canadian actress who lost a daughter during a violent crime in Vancouver eight years ago shared her story with a crowd of people at Mountain View Cemetery today.

The people were gathered for Bereavement Day in BC.

Actress Janet Wright, whose daughter Rachel Davis was shot to death outside the Purple Onion nightclub in Vancouver, tries to put in words what it’s like to lose someone close.

“It’s more than devastating,” she laments. “It doesn’t mean I don’t laugh, but as someone said once, I’ll never be happy again.”

Wright, who played Emma Leroy on Corner Gas, says people in our culture feel embarrassed about expressing grief.

“Sometimes you get very, very depressed. But people don’t see that. I’ve gone through phases where I could tell you about every single reality TV show ever made. At one point, TV was everything for me. You move in and out of grief. It’s a forever sentence.”

At the service, people were invited to release a dove in memory of a loved one. It was also a day mourners were reminded about BC’s bereavement helpline, which is 604-738-9950.
