MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – As the hunt continues for the person responsible for mutilating two dozen cats in Maple Ridge over the last year, the threat has some businesses taking extra precautions.
Tiana Dear, owner of the Willow Hill Cat Hotel and Boarding, says she won’t be leaving her windows open in an effort to protect the animals she boards.
“Now I am concerned,” says Dear. “Just in case [the person] does get a little bit crazy and cuts the screens off my windows. This year I am probably going to lock all my windows.”
Dear adds she keeps all the cats inside during their stay with her.
“I always have my gates locked, and I have two big dogs, so unless people are coming and going, my property is pretty secure,” feels Dear.
Concern over the safety of cats in Maple Ridge has heightened in recent days.
Nine cats were found dead over the past two weeks. The most recent ones were found near Harry Hooge Elementary School on 230th Street and along 221st Street.
The BC SPCA has issued a special warning for people living between 217th and 230th, because that looks like the target area right now.
