Washington State police keeping close eye on gangs at fair

LYNDON, WA (NEWS1130) – Police in Washington State are hoping your family feels a little safer at the Northwest Washington Fair in Lynden this week with officers making sure no gang members gain access.

Organizers also hope last year’s shoot up won’t keep British Columbians from visiting.

Chief Jack Foster says he’ll be keeping an eye out for certain red flags.

“Watching for people who exhibit known articles of gang clothing, gang tattoos, gang signs,” he says.

He adds there are 350 known gang members in the county and 56 separate gangs to deter from the grounds.

“The gang activity is not anything new to the fair, we have had clashes before, but last year it erupted in violence,” he recalls.

Last year one person was stabbed and three were shot, including two bystanders.
