Six newborn kittens found in cooler in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The BC SPCA is hoping you can help them find whoever left six newborn kittens in a cooler on the side of the road in Surrey.

A woman walking to work last night walked past a light grey cooler on Whalley Boulevard and 108th Avenue.

“She looked inside it and there was six newborn kittens inside with a sign that said ‘Free Kittens,'”explains the SPCA’s Lorie Chortyk.

She believes the kittens only had a few hours to live if they had been left there.

“These poor little kittens were just a few days old and there’s no way that they would have survived inside that cooler [with] direct sunlight.”

Chortyk says the kittens’ eyes were closed, they were dehydrated, some even still had their umbilical cords attached.

They’re now being cared for at the SPCA animal hospital and will be put into foster homes for round the clock care.

If you know anything about who abandoned the animals, you’re asked to call the BC SPCA Investigations Department at 604-647-1318.
