Sam ‘the Record Man’ Sniderman dies at 92

TORONTO, Ont. – Sam Sniderman, best known as the co-founder of ‘Sam the Record Man’ store has died.
Surrounded by loved ones, Sniderman passed away in his sleep Sunday night at the age of 92.
In 1937, Sniderman partnered with his brother Sid and opened a small record store on College Street in Toronto.
Together, they built a chain of Sam the Record Man stores that opened across the country.
A major promoter of Canadian music, Sniderman received the Order of Canada in 1976. He was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1997.
He opened his flagship store on Toronto’s Yonge Street in 1959. The iconic store with its huge flashing neon record signs closed in 2007, seven years after he retired.
