Calvillo breaks former Lions’ record in loss

MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – The Thanksgiving Day CFL action began with a stunner in Montreal. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers took advantage of five Alouettes turnovers to upset the CFL East Division leaders 27-22.

Bombers quarterback Joey Elliott, filling in for the injured Buck Pierce, tossed three touchdown passes and 330 yards in Winnipeg’s first road victory of the season and their first on the road since last October.

The only bright spot for Montreal was another passing record for veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo. The 40-year-old broke former BC Lion Damon Allen’s mark for passing attempts when he threw his 9139th attempt in the third quarter.

The win for Winnipeg opens the door for the Toronto Argonauts to move into a tie with Montreal for top spot in the East Division if they beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders this afternoon.

The Argos will start former BC Lion Jarious Jackson at quarterback with starter Ricky Ray nursing an injured knee.
