MONTREAL (NEWS1130) – Three men with ties to the Lower Mainland have been arrested as part of what police in Quebec are calling a nationwide drug trafficking ring.
Police say the ring originated in BC and made its way from west to east; they say about 1000 police and RCMP officers were involved in the bust. They went into 30 municipalities and made over 100 arrests.
Doug Spencer is a former gang expert with the Vancouver Police Department. He says he’s not surprised the drug ring originated in BC, “It’s far-reaching. That’s their way of making money — the drug business.”
Police say the focus of the arrests are trafficking cocaine and other drugs. They seized 13 barrels of an ingredient used to make the date rape drug, 13 cars and five homes along with more than $250,000 in cash.
Quebec Provincial Police have confirmed Larry Amero is among those arrested; he is a local full-patch Hells Angels member. He’s also known for being in the car with Jonathan Bacon when he was shot dead in Kelowna last year. Shane Maloney and Rabib Alkhalil, who have ties to the Lower Mainland, have also been arrested. Alkhalil’s brother Mamoud was killed in the Loft 6 shootout in Vancouver nearly a decade ago.
