NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a plea for your help to save lives. North Shore Rescue is short thousands of dollars to pay for its new training centre and is hoping to get some donations.
The 1.4 million dollar facility in North Vancouver will be operational early next month says Tim Jones with North Shore Rescue. It has all the basics thanks to municipal governments and private donors like the Charros Foundation but more cash would be a big benefit. “(It’s for) This logistics hub, any helicopter training we do, the helicopter long line rescues we do. We gave a young skier the best chance for survival on Hollyburn two weeks ago, unfortunately he died but we gave him every opportunity for him to survive,” explains Jones.
He says they need things like an industrial washer and dryer, full mechanic tools inventory, computers and AV equipment to help with coordinating rescue missions. “The 70 thousand dollars (needed) is going to things like a Rope Rescue Catwalk, essential items that allow us to train efficiently, for members to come from work, and train indoors and be ready for outdoor responses,” says Jones.
The organization which has about 45 volunteers is very busy; in this year alone there have been roughly 100 distress calls.
