VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you’re not on the list, don’t plan on getting into the Enbridge Northern Gateway hearings when they come to Vancouver later in the month.
The hearings resumed in Victoria on Friday, and not even a local MP was allowed inside.
Only the scheduled presenters, their guests, and the media are allowed in the room with the panel reviewing the Northern Gateway project.
Victoria NDP MP Murray Rankin was turned away. “I just found it appalling that I wasn’t able to attend and observe on behalf of my constituents.”
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency says it’s because of concerns about disruptions.
Rankin says he wasn’t planning on causing trouble. “I was wearing a suit and tie and my Member of Parliament button, and I was intending to be respectful.”
Rankin had to go to a hotel kilometers away to watch the hearing on television.
The same policy will apply when the hearings move to Vancouver Jan. 14.
