Giants comeback falls short in Cow town

CALGARY, AB (NEWS1130) – Despite coming back from two goals down to tie the game 4-4 in the third period, the Vancouver Giants lost 5-4 to the Calgary Hitmen. Defenceman Brett Kulak evened the score for the Giants and added two assists.

Vernon native Brady Brassart’s second goal of the game on the power play, midway through the third period, was the game winner in front of almost 12,000 fans.

Riley Kieser and Cain Franson with his 15th had the Giants up 2-1 after the first period.

The Hitmen scored the next three goals and were up 4-2, 90 seconds into the third period.

Travis McEvoy scored his first as a Giant on the power play to cut the Calgary lead to one. Kulak’s  8th of the season less than two minutes later evened the contest.

McEvoy added an assist for Vancouver, while Tyler Morrison had two helpers for the Giants.

Payton Lee returned to the Giants’ net to make 29 saves.

Vancouver was two-for-six on the power play, while the Hitmen scored twice on three power play chances.

Vancouver wraps up its Alberta swing with a game in  Medicine Hat on Tuesday and Lethbridge on Wednesday.
