Search crews looking for man missing for months

SQUAMISH (NEWS1130) – The search has resumed for a missing man whose abandoned car was found south of Squamish last year. David Leggett’s vehicle was located near Shannon Falls December 9th.

A crew of 17 people has been back on trails in the area since Saturday, and Murray Watt with Squamish Search and Rescue says they will continue for up to two weeks.

“It’s pretty obvious by this amount of time past we’re not in a rescue mode; we’re in a recovery mode,” he tells us.

“If he is in the area, we want to plan it out and think it through and try to look at areas that are high probability because the search area could be very large.”

Leggett’s car was already covered in a thick layer of snow by the time it was located last year. The 35-year-old’s wallet and cell phone were found inside the vehicle.

Watt and his team of searchers have already canvassed a wide area.

“We covered off the top part of the Chief, and we’re also on to the Malamutes and that area behind the Papoose. Sorry to say, we had a negative search day. We found no sign or indication of Mr. Leggett.”

Originally from Ontario, Leggett had been living in Surrey for a couple of years.
