Premier misses out on Point Grey all-candidates debate

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Organizers of an all-candidates debate in the Vancouver-Point Grey riding say it may not be Premier Christy Clark’s fault she didn’t make it to the gathering.

Five of the six people running to become the area’s next MLA were in attendance to debate the issues at UBC.

Tanner Bokor with the Alma Mater Society says the premier might not have received the initial invite due to an email glitch.

When a follow up email was sent out, it was too late.

Another Liberal hopeful asked to step in to speak on the party’s behalf, but Boker explains the request was denied. “The email that was sent to that party’s designates, but after further review we decided that it would be inappropriate. For the Point-Grey debates, it should be only Point-Grey candidates.”

Liberal candidate Andrew Wilkinson for the Vancouver-Quilchena riding isn’t happy about being shut out. “It’s disappointing for any audience that’s here to hear a political debate between the two major parties in the province and one of them is being excluded.”

The discussion, in front of mostly students, includes issues like education, transportation, and the environment.
