NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The North Shore is one of the fastest growing areas of the Lower Mainland and has been identified as the “next big play” in local real estate.
News1130’s “Your Vote” riding profiles continues with a look at the race in North Vancouver-Lonsdale, what observers say this is the most NDP friendly of all the North Shore constituencies.
With the New Democrats leading in the polls and continued population growth bringing in younger voters, incumbent Liberal Naomi Yamamoto could be in tough, but she has heard it all before.
“Well, in 2009 I was told that it was a swing riding as well and we widened the margin of victory considerably and we’re going to not take anything for granted,” she says.
Running for the NDP is popular longtime North Vancouver City Councillor Craig Keating.
“The election is not so much about me and my opponent in this riding, it is about the basic dynamic of, do you want more of the same, or do you want change for the better?”
Yamamato has nothing but good things to say about Keating.
“You know what? Craig has worked very, very hard. Unfortunately, the party he represents, they don’t have a very good record.”
Yamamoto is beating the familiar Liberal drum of keeping government small and taxes low.
“And in North Vancouver, where the average household income is $5,000 less than the provincial average, low taxes is very important.”
Running for the BC Conservatives is Allan Molynyeaux, replacing Jeff Sprague who stepped down after what his party calls a regrettable personal incident, while Ryan Conroy is running for the Greens.
