VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – More kids are tapping and swiping before they’re out of diapers.
A new study looking at how smartphones and tablets are being used to entertain kids finds almost 40 per cent of parents admit to letting their child use the devices.
UCLA neuroscientist Dr. Gary Small doesn’t think it’s a great idea. “These young kids need to be developing language skills and learning to recognize a facial expression, and not scanning the Internet.”
The survey from Northwestern University shows more than half of parents worry it could harm their kids physical activity levels.
Experts don’t think kids under two should be allowed to use tablets. However, studies have shown older children can learn a lot from interactive media.
