Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup Champs

BOSTON, MA (News1130) – The Chicago Blackhawks are Stanley Cup champions for the second time in four years.

Bryan Bickell and Dave Bolland scored 17 seconds apart for Chicago late in the third period and the Blackhawks stunned the Boston Bruins with a 3-2 series-clinching win in Game 6.

East Vancouver’s Milan Lucic gave Boston the 2-1 lead midway through the third period, but Chicago rallied with two goals in the final two minutes to win the club’s fifth Cup and first since 2010.

The Bruins opened the scoring with Chris Kelly scoring seven minutes in the first period. Early in the second, Captain Jonathan Toews got the Blackhawks on the board.

Patrick Kane saved his best for the Stanley Cup final, and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Kane led the ‘Hawks in scoring with 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists. Kane thrived the most once coach Joel Quenneville reunited him with Jonathan Toews and Bickell.

This is the first Stanley Cup final meeting between the two Original Six teams. The championship win is fitting for the Blackhawks given the team set a league record with a remarkable run in which they earned at least one point in their first 24 games at the start of the season.
