Minter Gardens shutting the doors after 33 years

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – A well-known British Columbian is shutting his well-known tourist attraction.

Brian Minter spoke with News1130 Business Editor Richard Dettman, and said this is the last season for Minter Gardens.

“We are not at a destination and our gardens have always been subsidized by our main business in Chilliwack, Country Garden Limited.”

Minter calls it a “heart-wrenching decision” but adds it gives plenty of notice for people who want to hold weddings or other events at the garden. Minter also says weather has been a factor, with cloudy and rainy days on the rise..

And so after this, its 34th season, the attraction east of Chilliwack will close.

There’s no word yet what will happen to the 32-acre site, but the family says it’s committed to finding an “eco and community friendly” solution.
