VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – One BC wildfire fighter will be in Arizona for the memorial service for 19 fallen first responds.
Andrew Voigt remembers his reaction when he first heard the 19 Hotshots had been killed by a fast-moving blaze last weekend.
“What a good, great bunch of young folks, just like our fire fighters. My hear sank along with everybody else’s in the fire world up here when we heard about this tragedy.”
Voigt will represent the over 11,000 BC wild firefighters at Tuesday’s memorial service in Prescott Valley.
“We work hand in hand with those folks year-after-year, we exchange fire fighters in between Canada and the United States. We’re just there to support our fallen comrades.”
He doesn’t think his attitude to fighting wildfires will change when he heads back to work with the Nelson branch – if anything he says he now feels even more proud.
