COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) -You know those traffic lights at United Boulevard when you’re connecting to Highway 1 westbound? They’re now gone!
The lights have been replaced by a brand new overpass, part of major changes in the busy Cape Horn Interchange in Coquitlam.
Greg Johnson with the Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement Project says the overpass is a direct connection from the Mary Hill Bypass to the highway.
“This is going to eliminate the need for the traffic lights for those drivers. They’re going to take this new overpass ramp which will take them directly onto Highway 1 westbound, saving a lot of time on their commutes,” he says.
He notes the old on-ramp to Highway One westbound from United southbound is now closed.
To get onto Highway 1 westbound from United Boulevard, you should use the Coleman Avenue on-ramp or the Brunette Interchange via Lougheed Highway.
Johnson says to stay tuned for further openings in the Cape Horn Interchange and the Port Mann/Highway One Corridor.
Fifteen new overpasses and underpasses are being built or rebuilt in the Cape Horn Interchange. Once the entire project is completed, it’s hoped you’ll save about an hour of driving a day.
