SURREY (NEWS1130) – There are heavy hearts at Princess Margaret Secondary School in Surrey today following yesterday’s crash that killed a teenage girl and left two of her friends seriously hurt.
A motorcycle slammed into the girls as they crossed 128th Street near 68th Avenue, just off school grounds. The 16-year-old who was killed was a student at Princess Margaret Secondary. Her friends remain in hospital.
At first glance, you can’t even tell there was a crash in the area, but on closer inspection, you notice there are strips of tape on the road, where investigators were marking spots and trying to piece together what led up to the crash.
There are bits of shattered glass on the side of the road. There’s even a piece of broken plastic that presumably came from the motorcycle.
Many students have had to walk past all of this on their way to school.
We spoke with a Grade 12 student who was in a leadership class with the girl who was killed. “She was a very nice girl, kind to everybody, a leader in the school… someone that people could rely on. It’s very shocking.”
She says the tragedy goes to show how badly a crosswalk is needed somewhere between 72nd and 68th Avenue for the students.
Dozens of students were seen jaywalking in the area this morning, some of them crossing at the exact same spot where the teen was killed yesterday.
