TORONTO (NEWS1130) – An email written by a City Hall security guard describes events from St. Patrick’s Day in 2012 when Mayor Rob Ford appeared drunk and visibly upset.
The letter explains how Ford left City Hall with an entourage just after 11 p.m. on March 17, 2012, and returned around 2 a.m. the next day.
“It was quite evident that he was very intoxicated as he had problems walking, was sweating profusely and was swearing at [his chief of staff] Earl Provost,” the email read.
According to the security guard, around 2:30 a.m., Ford went down to the security desk with a half-empty bottle of brandy and said someone had stolen his car and that he was going to call police.
The security guard reminded Ford he had received a ride to City Hall that night and that his car was at home.
“At this time he realized that nobody had stolen his vehicle and disregarded the idea of calling the police,” the security guard said.
The email continues to say he was upset and started to yell and swear and made “alarming” allegations. But he allowed security to call him a taxi.
“We did our best at keeping him away from the public eye due to his condition,” the email said.
The email did mention that as it was St. Patrick’s Day, there were many intoxicated people in the area. Also, it was noted in the email that the Mayor was “quite pleasant towards corporate security on this night.”
