Transit referendum lacking detail

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It appears we’ll end this year still not knowing much about a planned referendum on funding transit.
The region’s mayors are still looking for answers.
Among the outstanding issues – when will the referendum be held, what’s the question, and who pays to promote it.
Mayors Council chair Richard Walton says it looks like we’re now drifting into January before we find out more. “There really haven’t been any discussions in the last weeks or months. I think at this point we’re waiting obviously for some ideas back from the minister, and as I indicated at this point, he’s indicating it’s likely going to be right before Christmas or in the New Year when we receive that.
Walton thinks it’s too late now for a spring referendum, and the timing is even tough for a fall vote to coincide with local elections. “There’s no question right now, I think, collectively we’ve all got our thumbs in the dike and we’re trying to keep the system as robust as possible, and there’s no end in sight.”
A mayors council public meeting that was scheduled for next week has now been cancelled, although TransLink says a closed door session will still occur.
