Signage changes after confusion with Hwy 17 opening

DELTA (NEWS1130) – After confusion and backups that stretched kilometres, the transportation ministry has made changes to signage on the newly opened South Fraser Perimeter Road in Delta.
Many of you sounded off with us yesterday when you missed a ferry or couldn’t find your way home.
Geoff Freer with the project says crews went out overnight and adjusted highway signs by moving them to give drivers more notice and adding new directions to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal.
Freer believes they did all they could do get word out about the new interchange to Highway 99 opening. While part of the confusion could be blamed on some drivers just not paying attention, he understands why some were upset.
“Folks have been driving and using the route to the ferry for many, many years now, and that route’s in the process of changing. And coming south through the tunnel is a very busy place.”
The final stretch of the new Highway 17 will open before Christmas.
