Search for missing UK tourist called off

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The official search for a tourist from the UK has been called off after crews scouring the side of Mount Seymour today found nothing.

Tim Jones with North Shore Rescue says they were looking at what appeared to be a campsite but it turned out to be nothing significant. “It had to be checked out because there was no reason for it to be there. Once they got directly inserted right to it, it turned out that it wasn’t a shelter. This is something that we could not rule out simply from the air, we had to get people on the ground.

Jones says he’s hopeful, but has doubts given the freezing temperatures we had earlier this month. “It would have been very difficult for anyone to survive that wasn’t very equipped for winter survival. After that, it started to warm up with the weather system, the clouds, the rain, it really hampered us.”

Twenty-two-year-old Tom Billings hasn’t been seen since November 25th.

He is reportedly an experienced hiker and is believed to have disappeared somewhere on the North Shore.
